How long do i have to be tanning outside for me to be in risk of skin cancer. Iam white but not hardcore whiteHow long does it take to for skin cancer to form from tanning?
The moment you go outside, you are at risk from skin cancer. How long does it take to for skin cancer to form from tanning?
Doesn't matter what your skin color is.
No tanning. It is carcinogenic (cancer-causing)
Maybe not today, maybe not in five years, but I promise you that it will catch up to you one day and you will bemoan the day you ever laid in a tanning bed.
As soon as you get your skin in the sun, you're at risk. But, some amounts of sun are actually better for you than bad. It gives you vitamin D, which is a very important vitamin.
Moderation is key. :)
Nonmelanoma skin cancer is usually caused by overexposure to the sun and its ultraviolet (UV) rays. Overexposure to UV rays can result from:
* Having severe sunburns and blistering, especially during childhood.
* Spending extensive time in the sun over many years.
* Using tanning beds or sunlamps, which are artificial sources of UV rays.
Tanning (not burning) FROM THE SUN a little is a good thing to help prevent cancer not only of the skin but of the colon and elsewhere. Go figure!
Recent research has found that Vitamin D, a vitamin your body makes from 10 minutes of more of continuous sun exposure, is protective for reducing the risk of cancer.
That is, unless you use those spf sun screens. Go figure again!
Researchers have known for a long time that skin cancers are less likely in warmer climates and more likely in cold climates where people bundle up more.
More recent research on Vitamin D helped to confirm the sun exposure benefits.
But if you use those spf thingies, especially sun blockers, all bets are off.
The rule of thumb is don't burn. I recall nutrition author Gary Null saying that Vitamin C in huge amounts protected him from burning when he had exposures that would have burned him otherwise.
Good luck and be well.
