I have Lupus and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on helping dry skin?

I have been living with Lupus for about a year now and have episodes where my face gets very dry, flaky and sometimes itchy (butterfly rash). The skin around my eyes and my eyelids get very dry. The skin turns a deep shade red/purple and sometimes is painful to the touch. I also get dry patches on my forehead and chin. Does anyone have non prescription remedies to make my episodes subside easier?I have Lupus and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on helping dry skin?
This is something that you really must talk with

your doctor about. Its important that he or she

know this. It may be a side effect of medication

you are now taking. And furthermore, before you self

medicate, you need to find out it it will interact in a

negative way with your current medications.I have Lupus and was wondering if anyone had any suggestions on helping dry skin?
Please talk with a dermatologist about this. There are quite a number of topical creams that can help control these skin issues in lupus. In some cases, a short course of oral steroids (prednisone) may get the skin issues to subside. Then you can stop the prednisone, with the doctor's guidance, and go on to use topical applications on the skin.

With lupus, like with any chronic disease, you are always faced with choices. You have to weigh the benefits versus the risks of any treatment. And you have to decide if you want to go on suffering with your symptoms hoping that an over-the-counter-medication or ';natural cure'; will take care of it or bite the bullet and get medical attention to alleviate your symptoms.

Other considerations: Avoid the sun. If you must be in the sun ALWAYS use a sunscreen that blocks UVA and UVB rays and reapply it generously and often. Wear broad brimmed hats. Wear tightly woven clothing that covers your skin. And learn to manage or deal with stress. The sun and stress are two HUGE factors in lupus flares.
